I'll call this - Bedrest day 1
Warning: there may be girly stuff and medical terminology...but I'll give you the nicer, abbreviated version :)
To say it has been a whirlwind since Tuesday would be an understatement. I was 19 weeks 1day on Monday by my Ob. I had gone in for my 18 week appointment where they do the anatomy scan the Monday before where we found out we are having a baby girl. Everything looked clear on the anatomy scan, all healthy. They had been monitoring my placenta (it was low-lying) and the length of my cervix. We knew I was "high risk" since I had surgery on my cervix back in 2009 when they thought I might have cervical cancer. So, Monday when I got to work I had some fluid leaking and this feeling that something wasn't right. I read online for 2 seconds at work and everything said it was "normal". Then I got home and read some more and realized it might not be normal so I called the Dr and they made an appointment for me Tuesday.
Fast forward to Tuesday at 2pm. I went to the Dr. they checked everything out and were about to send me home. Then I asked the Dr. "so my placenta has moved where it should?" and she looks at my chart and says "It looks like they didn't check the length of your cervix last week at your 18 week, do you have time to stay for an ultrasound?" So, I did. As soon as she walked back in the room after looking at my ultrasound, she says "we're going to admit you to the hospital and then transport you uptown to Presby Main, there is very little left of your cervix and we need to do an emergency cerclage". My head started spinning and fortunately she had gone over this with me earlier on so I knew what a cerclage was.
I had a nice ride in the ambulance (check that off the, uh, bucket list) with nice people, and amazing doctors. The staff was so nice and helpful. The doctors went over everything with Adam and I, they did an amniocentesis to make sure there was no infection in the uterus and we decided the Dr. would go in and do a cerclage if there was enough cervix left to do it. Surgery was at 11 am on Wednesday morning and then I was released at 5pm that night. Now I'll be on bed rest the rest of the pregnancy (or at least until 36 weeks). We've got to keep this little girl in my belly as long as possible!
Both of my bosses came to the hospital to visit. Adam's parents came up, bought us some groceries and Mom and B are here and cleaned the house today. Adam has been amazing and helpful!! I am very fortunate to have people that care so much! Thank you all for your prayers, texts and messages to Adam and I, it has been encouraging. Please keep praying this little girl (name to come soon) will make it full term!
So, all that to say, visitors welcome! Please come keep me company :)
