Gratitude where you are

Gratitude by Brandon Lake is playing in the background as I come and sit down to have an afternoon snack of homemade pico and chips.

My children are across the street at our new neighbors. They are from Ukraine. They have been a gift like all the other neighbors we have met in this unexpected season of life. They love to play with my kids and they are kind. There are three other families with children in the neighborhood who all love our kids and treat them like family. There is an abuela who will have the occasional glass of wine and a cheese board with me. Gratitude...as I am sitting here frustrated over a house I wanted that went to someone else today. It's not my plan. It's one hundred percent up to the Lord, which is where I want it to be, but some days are harder than others.

I am on the phone telling my Mom about the house I wanted and then the new neighbors and then was reminded about a house I saw online so I decided to drive by it. It started raining and the kids were with me and we pull up to the stop sign and a lightening bolt hit right in front of us, as if God screamed, Not this one! My oldest and I looked at each other and I quickly drove out of the neighborhood.

Recently my husband met a coworker and they realized we live on the.same.street. They had moved out of a house with mold. She needed a pediatrician and maybe some testing to see how they could detox. Another God moment where I'm shaking my head thinking...this is why we are still here.

I know that being in God's will is the only place I ever want to be. Otherwise, what are we doing? So I'll keep waiting and praying and doing the things every day I know are the right thing. And I'll explain that we are here because this is wehre God has us right now and it might not make sense. It may make sense one day here on earth but it may not, and that's okay.

I've recently read that you can't be anxious and grateful at the same time. Shifting my thoughts to gratitude as often as I can. We have a choice to complain or be grateful in the waiting. Today I'm choosing gratitude.
