2013 - Vision Casting

My friend Colleen posted a facebook status about how their family was "vision casting".What a great idea. I believe it is important to have goals and visions for your family and for yourself. Every year I make a new year's resolution. I know it's probably cheesy or cliche'. I don't care. I like having goals and even moreso, I like accomplishing goals. It's why I like vacuuming and washing my car. Or mowing the grass. I like to see results. I have ten pounds to lose after having Alley. It's all in my tummy but I want it to go away. As.Soon.As.Possible. :) So, I asked Adam if we could do some vision casting for our family. We didn't, but it was a nice thought. Maybe he'll come around. :) So, I do it for myself anyway. Here are a few things I'd like to get accomplished this year. 1. I'd like to pray and read my bible more. I don't do this enough. Billy Graham even said he doesn't do it enough, I've got to work in this area. ...

Dear God,

Dear God, It would really be great if I would win the Pottery Barn Benjamin Moore Room Makeover. ~Ginny I have been going to the facebook post and entering every day to win this sweepstakes. It kindof bugs me that everyone writes their own sob story on the facebook page to try to get whoever decides the winner to 'pick them'. Most of these people write that they have had the same furniture 25 years, just bought a new house, or my favorite...every other room in their house is PB so they need the last one they have put off as the last one to decorate to match. LOL. So, if I were to write on their wall, I'd write something like... Pottery Barn, Adam and I moved 4 times last year, every piece of furniture in our house is a hand me down, we have three empty rooms, and we are on Dave Ramsey's plan to get out of debt, so furniture isn't something we'll be buying anytime soon. Since June 24th I have lost both my great grandmother's, my best friend's mom...

Give me a tin roof, a front porch, and a gravel road. - Little Big Town

This morning I woke up when Adam did (way earlier than I would ever want to) and typically I just go back to sleep. I'm not a morning person...shocker, I know.  However, on Wednesdays, the trucks at the plant across the street back up alot apparently. They are loud. Then the landscaping dudes come out and they have a contest to see how long they can hold their leaf blowers. After that, the longest train ever, really I think it won the guiness world record for longest trains, goes by. Then of course, there must have been an accident on the highway because the helicopters are flying over head checking out the traffic. After going to bed later than desired and then having a few interesting/bad dreams (I always have dreams, crazy ones for those of you who don't know) I was really hoping to sleep in a little this morning. Now, I realize there are a lot of people who have to get up early....I'm just sayin' it would've been nice on this one day if the sounds of the city we...

A Little More Country Than That

If someone would write a country song about being outside I would want to be in the video. There is a new country song out called "I'm a little more country than that" by up and coming artist Easton Corbin. I know that I'm a mix between city girl and country dreamer. I like being about 45 minutes from a good mall and great restaurants, but like having some fresh air, a garden, and good people. Most people know how I like pretty scenery and when I see an open field I want to stop the car, get out, and go run through it. I love driving through the mountains, sitting on a dock at the lake for hours, or taking a long walk on a beach. I could lay on a blanket and gaze up at the stars for hours. But I also enjoy a little fast paced life sometimes too (minus rush hour and crime). Right now we live in a 'suburb' of Augusta and it's a little bit country. It's a pretty drive home and I like how I can go to a different post office and be the only one in the post ...

Twenty-ten...let the fun begin!

Or something like that. 2009 was a whirlwind. Great in 08, Time to Shine in 09, and in 2010...well, we will see. We started out the New Year in Charlotte with great friends and fellowship. We went over to Scott and Kristi Brooks' home (new house, they have so cutely decorated!) and Scott's family was in town for the holidays. We had a great dinner and talked and watched the Red Bull guy jump over the water in his car and then watched the ball drop - about eight times. Scott enjoyed replaying poor Dick Clark messing up the count down. Ahhh...New Years Eve :) Katie was going to a party down the street and stopped by to say hi, was great to see her as always before they headed back to AZ. Who knows where they will be headed to next?! Thus, the new year is here and new beginnings and thus far...it's been hard. My fun spirited self has dwindled over these first 8 days of the year and been all about what Dave says...you see, Dave is trying to get us out of debt (Thank you s...

What would a girl do without Frosted Flakes?

Here's a bit of analytical psychobabble for you. Enjoy. It's Thursday evening...8:04pm. I have been running around all day trying to be productive. Thus far, success. Now, however, I am sitting in my lil apartment over the garage in fleece pants, a warm Blair sweatshirt, socks, and a ponytail. I just finished a bowl of frosted flakes. I love frosted flakes. I love them anytime of the day but particularly at night. I was just sitting here thinking, why do I love frosted flakes at night? I was also thinking how I'd give anything to have a ten minute conversation with my dad at this stage in my life. I'm getting ready to get married, move to a new city, and start a whole new season of life. If he were around, we'd have been chatting this up from day one. So tonight as I was thinking a phone call to dad would be lovely, I eat a bowl of frosted flakes instead. Literally - thought process went - "man, I'd really love to talk with my dad right now...dad and I alwa...

One of my favorite scenes of all time...

Joe Fox : You know, sometimes I wonder... Kathleen Kelly : What? Joe Fox : Well... if I hadn't been Fox Books and you hadn't been The Shop Around the Corner, and you and I had just, well... met... Kathleen Kelly : I know. Joe Fox : Yeah. I would have asked for your number, and I wouldn't have been able to wait twenty-four hours before calling you and saying, "Hey, how about... oh, how about some coffee or, you know, drinks or dinner or a movie... for as long as we both shall live?" Kathleen Kelly : Joe... Joe Fox : And you and I would have never been at war. And the only thing we'd fight about would be which video to rent on a Saturday night. Kathleen Kelly : Well, who fights about that? Joe Fox : Well, some people. Not us. Kathleen Kelly : We would never. Joe Fox : If only.

Give me a tin roof, a front porch and a gravel road...that's home to me.

What could be better than a tin roof, a front porch, and a gravel road? Add some sweet tea to it and it's delightful. Just thinking about the people in my life who have contributed to this part of me...(disclaimer, this post has lots of dot dot dots) You know how you have friends that you can stay on the phone with for hours at a time and talk about nothing, or sit on a swing and be silent and a million words are spoken without using words...how you can walk on the beach and not realize how far you've gone and when you stop you're miles away...those nights in college where you'd just lay on the bed talking forever about who knows what...that's what world I'm in at this moment. If only I could stay in it without the responsibilities of the the 'real' world coming in. I could talk myself out of it with thoughts about money, purpose in life, being responsible and a grown up, or I can sit here and reminisce about the good ole times. There's a reason I fe...

Saturday night and the moon is out.

There are times when my heart feels and I can't quite put into words what the emotions are. It's this passionate feeling...like I want to go run until I feel the seaweed under my feet and the waves crashing around my legs. I'm not great at expressing myself with words, or verbally anyway. And I wish that I could articulate beautifully my thoughts. Instead they come out like jumble...like a mess of tongue tied rambling about nothing...or everything. Why I like writing. I probably have like 5 readers, on a good day. And they probably all know how silly and ridiculous I am already. Am I the only one who sits around on a Saturday afternoon wishing she could be on top of a mountain somewhere or walking with my feet in the sand, or feeling the wind on my face riding on a boat on water...somewhere, anywhere. I don't know if it's because when I'm in these places I can feel God...or maybe it's because I just had nothing to do today. What could I have done today, that...

Great Day!

That's what my papaw says when he gets excited or frustrated. "Great Day!" Haha. I love it. Today is a 'good for your soul' day. I don't quite know how to explain it. Something about listening to Kenny singing "Down the Road" and a good morning. My sis stayed with me last night. I got up, went to the gym at 8, came home and made pancakes, scrambled eggs, blueberries and coffee. So delish! Today is a day where I really wanna go run through a field. People make fun of me when I say this. Or sit on a dock for hours talking at the lake. Or take a long walk with the sand between my toes. That's a good for the soul day. The smell of wet grass or the cool spring breeze (It is almost spring, so this is relevant). I just want to spend time with people that I love. People that also know what it's like to feel like that. Great Day!

Excited because...

1. I made a budget today. 2. I got both of my 401k checks in the mail today to the people they are supposed to go to. 3. I get to write an article for a publication for Dicks Sporting Goods about Cheerleading. Yayyy! 4. I'm waiting on an answer from my boss about the ski trip to New Mexico. Pray hard people, pray hard! 5. I am 5 competitions away from summer. Mobile, Nationals, Denver, Chicago, and Ft. Lauderdale. 6. God is amazing. 7. I have yellow and silver Nike's.

It's official, I'm crazy.

I literally just looked up the town, this small town in California that my friend sent to me. I looked it up and thought, I could fly there Saturday, go to this festival they have on Sunday and fly back Monday. I did, I thought it. I'm crazy. Shae sent me a price for Italy, 668 right now for a round trip ticket to Milan to see Kristen and Jobey. I'm just a dreamer...and sometimes I forget that. I get caught up in life, and forget the fun dreamy kind of stuff. I can't let that happen...the older I get I still want to let the creative, day dreamy, sap come out. Haha. The spur-of-the-moment Ginny I once loved.

Nostalgia.

Mr. McCullough wrote a nice blog about nostalgia, so thought I would do the same. I kinda woke up thinking about it, because when I heard my non-alarm (cell phone on vibrate) go off, it was raining outside and my room was dark and I thought "I should stay in bed til the rain stops". But, I didn't. Work and my paycheck calls. Last night I did Zumba with Kristi and when we came out of the church there was that wet grass at dusk smell. Dusk is my favorite time of the day. When I was little, it was when mom would yell for us to come inside from playing. I grew up going to Badin Lake, and it's still my favorite place in the world. At dusk, the water would be still as glass. Occasionally a boat would come into our cove where my papaw's house was and then the sound of the waves hitting the shore or causing the boat to rock against the pier, it was so relaxing. Dusk was when my dad, brother, sister, and I would get our fishing rods and go down and sit on the dock and try ...

Where to start. The 4th of July was amazing. I'll begin there. I went with Teran, Paige, Adam, Lauren, and Jeff to Paige and Teran's parents house in Franklin, NC and it was wonderful. I felt very relaxed. We went hiking, to the fireworks in downtown Franklin, to Fat Buddy's restaurant, and white water rafting. We also were able to meet the Amish friends of their family. I love Amish people! haha, I couldn't wait to meet them. It was a weekend full of laughs and smiles and lots and lots of fun. I love the mountains! (And my new chacos, they came in handy!). Then, on Tuesday, the Student Ministry went to the Matthews Help Center to clean and do some service work around there. After, we went to the Siskey Y, where I got really burnt, and then we played Boggy Pong (there's no way to describe this super fun chaotic game of group ping pong except to see it), and then the leaders went to Li's Chinese in Lake Park for dinner. They have delicious chicken! Then....here...

Go fly a kite

I watched the Kite Runner last night. Wow. I woke up thinking about it. The sadness in the world from the things that happen to people. The things people do to hurt other people. What a messed up world we live in. I'm also reading Heaven by Randy Alcorn and it talks about - heaven. So even though you see all the mess in this screwed up world, you know there is hope in heaven and living with God forever. I'd recommend this book to anyone. ..... Stopped by the church yesterday and am once again reminded I should start my own company. Or something. I think it is possible and could be a good thing. Wedding planning. It could give me a great schedule, flexibility, and hopefully enough income to get by without sacrificing time that should be used elsewhere. I need a name though...any thoughts? ..... I stopped by McDonald's this morning and got a sweet tea. Get this. I get to the window, and say "I would like a medium sweet tea"...she says..."you can get a large one...

There's just something delicious about pasta with cheese on it. ;) I woke up LAUGHING this morning! It was amazing. I had a friend call to say good morning, and then after I got off the phone I remembered my dream. This is a common occurance. I almost always remember my dreams. Usually they are completely random, like I'm in an airplane and then two seconds later I'm at a park learning how to golf or something. BUT Today was different. I've only dreamt about my dad 4 or 5 times since he died in April of 2002. Last night I had the most fun dream. See, my dad was the most fun person I have ever met. There's no other way to explain it. He walked into a room and it lit up. He made people laugh and smile and made them feel comfortable. No awkwardness about it. He would tell you he loved Jesus in the first five seconds he knew you. He liked jokes, corvette's and road trips and being spontaneous. He loved people. And he wouldn't ever pass up a chance to dance or s...
